副題 Subtitle: The Elements of the Sounds of English
講義内容 　英語音声学の基礎知識を与えるとともに、特に日本人が英語を発音する際の困難点を指摘し、日・英語の音韻構造の違い、英語の発音指導のためのヒントを示す。発声器官の名称と働き、英語音の分類と記述、音連続の発音、発話に見られる音声的変化、アクセント、イントネーション等を詳述する。
講義計画 　During the Spring Semester, we will consider the elements with constitute the sounds of language, especially the sounds of one particular language, that is, English. The concepts of segmental phonology, such as the phoneme, allophone, syllable, and distinctive features will be discussed.
　Although this is mainly a lecture course, the students are expected to master and use the IPA system, in class and out.
評価方法 　One 90-minute final examination; class participation. One tape recording of material relevant to class may be assigned.
