副題 Assessment in language education
講義内容 The seminar aims to introduce you to the principles and practice of language assessment. The course will examine the main approaches to language assessment and relate the underlying theory and practice to past and present second/foreign language teaching principles and methods.
講義計画 In the first semester, we will concentrate on learning about the history of language assessment and the principles that influenced early tests. We will then compare these early approaches to modern assessment when we look at the most recent theories of assessment.
In the second semester we will continue to examine the principles behind test construction and, in addition, we will work together to design and construct our original tests. This is an important skill for teachers to learn as we can appreciate the limits of what we can and cannot do in assessment.
評価方法 There will be no written examinations. Instead, you will be asked to write one paper at the end of each semester. The first will focus on the principles and theory of assessment, while the second will be more practical and connected to test construction. These two reports will account for 50% of your final grade. The other 50% will be awarded according to your attendance and you participation in class.
