副題 The Power and the Glory, by Graham Greene
講義内容 　Published in 1940, the story tells of the conflict between the secular authorities ruling Mexico and the Catholic Church in the early part of the twentieth century. The hero is a fallen-away Catholic priest, and the story describes how he progresses (through a series of failures) to become a genuine person. We will focus on the main themes depicted in the story, particularly the way divine grace effects its way in the human heart. Also, much attention will be given to learning about Greene's idea of love and its most essential qualities.

評価方法 There will be weekly homework assignments, plus an essay at the end of the semester.
