授業概要 The goals of OC-I/II are to activate knowledge through actual use, to stimulate healthy attitudes towards English and studying, to learn about learning, and to master language necessary for interpersonal interaction in a relaxed yet challenging environment.
学修目標 The goals of this class are to improve speaking/listening skills over a wide range of topics, to learn a variety of techniques for sharing opinions and information, to gain competency in beginning, maintaining and concluding daily conversations, to build vocabulary, to introduce how to conduct outside research, to gain exposure in presenting in small groups and in front of the class, and to become more independent learners.
授業計画 OC-I/II activities emphasize communication through interactive activities which students at different levels can adjust differently to and still profit from. There’s a lot of pair work for soliciting personal information while activating language learned in secondary schools. Students work both with textbooks and materials distributed by the teacher, and with audio and video tapes in the classroom.
(LL) In each 90 minute OC-I/II class, 45 minutes will be spent in the language laboratory with the emphasis on various aspects of listening comprehension and pronunciation using commercially prepared listening and video courses as well as actual television broadcasts.
評価方法 Student’s participation and preparation are evaluated informally in every class. Regular language laboratory tests and listening tests are given throughout the year. Individual instructors give tests based upon their texts, handouts, and activities. Students are given grades based upon the amount of work done and progress made. They are also asked to make self-evaluations and to give feedback on the course to the teachers. Homework and preparation are required for most classes and students can expect to spend about two hours outside of OC-I/II for homework per week.
Tests, homework and attendance in the LL are combined with results in OC-I/II to determine the course grade. OC evaluation includes periodic standardized tests.
