学修目標 By the end of this course, students should be able to plan and write a short report in a variety of discourse styles. Students should also be able to demonstrate some familiarity with the conventions of academic writing including the use of citations.
授業計画 Students will learn writing as a process that includes prewriting activities and writing essays in multiple drafts. Students may be asked to write approximately three essays of 500 words or more each semester.
In addition to feedback from their instructor, students may be asked to give feedback to their classmates, and, in turn, use that feedback to improve their own writing. Students may also be asked to use and document outside sources of information in their essays.
Class activities will vary depending on the instructor and students' needs. Class activities may include guidance from the instructor on writing essays in English, in-class writing, grammar review, and, in some cases, students may use computers during class, if available, for writing and / or research.
