副題	This is the first semester of the seminar course and considers principles of foreign language education. In this part of the course the focus will be on the area of planning,particularly on the construction of curricula.
授業概要
学修目標	The goal of this course is to enable students to understand the complexities of educational planning, specifically with regard to the planning of foreign language curricula. By the end of the course students should be familiar with the theories that underly curriculum construction and how these impact on the development of foreign language teaching programs in Japan and other countries.
授業計画	The content of the course will focus on the theory and practice of curricula. We will first consider the construction of a curriculum from a general education perspective before looking at the construction of curricula specific to foreign language education. We will discuss how language can be viewed from a number of different perspectives and that, depending on the perspective we choose, how a curriculum can be made. To understand the nature of a curriculum we also have to reflect on of the role of teachers and learners.
評価方法	There will be no examination. The grade for the course will be determined by a conbination of written reports, participation in group research and discussion as well as attendance.
