副題	Dubliners, by James Joyce
授業概要	Dubliners（1914）, is the title of a book of fifteen short stories by the lrish writer James Joyce. The stories were very critical of the people, culture, art, and religion of lreland. Why did Joyce write the stories? What did he think of lreland and the lrish people? What is the artistic value of the stories? These are some of the questions we would like to try to answer as we read these fascinating stories.
学修目標	I would like to teach the students how to examine a literary text critically, that is to say, to analyze it with a questioning eye, studying the author's purpose and whether or not he achieves his purpose.Some historical background will also be given so that the students can locate the stories within a particular period of European history. Relevant details of Joyce's life will also be provided.
授業計画
評価方法	There will be weekly homework assignments, plus an essay at the end of the semester.
