講義内容 Drawing from the achievements in Reading I/II. The aims of this course are to provide students with further practice in a variety of reading strategies and to improve reading proficiency while nurturing a positive attitude for and greater competence in reading in English. A variety of activities using both extensive and intensive reading materials will be used to improve student skills in surveying, predicting, skimming, scanning, inferring, and making connections with the readings.

英語I/IIリーディングで学んだことを生かし、この授業では、読解力の向上と読むことに対するポジティブな姿勢を養うことを目的として、さらにリーディング・ストラテジーの練習をする。多読と精読の両方をとおして、予測立て、概要把握のための拾い読み、情報収集のための拾い読み、推論、関連付け等のリーディング・ストラテジーを学習する。
学修目標 Students will increase their reading speeds, broaden and deepen their vocabulary. Students will learn how to effectively employ graphic organizers. Learners will also improve their abilities to make use of linguistic relationships to guess words from context, employ strategies to identify the writer's purpose, predict outcomes, see relationships and draw conclusions, empowering them to be more independent learners.

学生はこの授業をとおして、以下ができるようになることが期待されている。
‐リーディング・スピードを上げ、語彙力の幅を広げ理解を深くする
‐理解を深めるために、効果的にグラフィック・オーガナイザーを利用できる
‐文章上の関係とコンテキストから語彙の意味を推測することができる
‐作者の目的を知り、結果を予測し、情報の関連性を吟味し、結果を導き出すためのストラテジーを身に付ける
‐上記の練習をとおして、学生は教室外における自律学習ができるようになる

英語III、IVリーディング〈全〉１
この授業では、これまで培ってきた英語読解能力を飛躍させることをねらいとしている。英文を読むことは、文章全体の意味を一気に把握することから、ひとつひとつの単語の意味を吟味すること、文法的に文の構造を理解することにいたるまで、重層的なプロセスから成り立っている。このプロセスを効率的に身につけることができるように、授業では多角的なアプローチを試みる。

英語IIIリーディング〈全〉２
二種類の方法で英語のリーディングの力を養成する。一つは、英文を完全に理解して、第三者に理解してもらうために、正しい日本語に翻訳する方法。もう一つは（例えば、ウェブ上の好きな英語サイトで高速の拾い読みをする時のように）頭の中に日本語を介在させずに、英語をそのまま受け入れて理解する方法。授業では、両方の方法を取り入れて、読解力の養成に努める。最近のリーディングの授業は多読・速読中心で先へ先へと急ぐ傾向がある。無論、それも検定試験等の大意把握練習として必要であるが、同時に文法と前後関係を押さえて完全に理解するという精読も重要である。この授業では、前半に短篇小説を精読し、後半にTOEICの読解問題を速読し、読解力を総合的に高めることを目標とする。教材の難易度は、TOEICの読解問題が620点前後、短篇小説が語彙力4,000〜5,000語程度。

英語IIIリーディング〈全〉３
This course will integrate the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in English, with emphasis on introducing the English proficiency tests such as TOEIC, TOEFL and the STEP Eiken test. The class intends to help students familiarize themselves with the proficiency tests. This class is open to students interested in taking the proficiency tests. However, those not intending to take the tests are also welcome to take the class.
英語IVリーディング〈全〉３
Continuing from ReadingIII, this course will provide students with a variety of reading strategies to improve reading proficiency, increase reading speed, build vocabulary, and promote a positive attitude for and competence in reading in English. This class will emphasize reading passages similar to those found in the English proficiency tests including TOEIC, TOEFL and the STEP Eiken test. Those intending to take the English proficiency tests are encouraged to take the class. However, those not intending to take the tests are also welcome to take the class for the purpose of improving reading proficiency.
評価方法 Instructors will provide a detailed grading policy in their syllabus which will be distributed on the first day of class.
テキスト Textbooks and other required materials will be listed in the course syllabus distributed by the instructor on the first day of class.
