講義内容	This course provides students with an opportunity to refine their communicative English skills necessary for their respective academic studies.
学修目標	After the completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. interpret a variety of texts both in written and oral forms 2. develop their own thoughts in reaction to the texts 3. express their thoughts in a persuasive manner both in written and oral forms
講義計画	Activities in this course include: 1. reading a variety of written texts, such as newspaper articles, magazine articles, research articles, and short essays 2. watching and listening to a variety of audiovisual materials, such as news, television dramas, films, and popular music 3. summarizing and critically analyzing the content of written texts and audiovisual materials 4. discussing ideas with other students 5. writing short essays 6. making short presentations 7. final exam
評価方法	Final exam 40%; short essays 20%; short presentations 20%; class discussion and participation 20%
