講義内容 The general plan of the course is to examine the various ways by which students can improve their writing skills, while at the same time learn how to do basic research on a chosen topic.
学修目標 The goal of this course is to become efficient in doing basic research on a given topic, in writing about it, and in giving oral presentations.
講義計画 Tuesday, September 25: Re-entry and some comments about previous lessons as well as remarks about what we will do this term. Assignments for next week.

October 9: Chapter 12:“Preparing the Final Paper”
October 16: Chapter 13:“Preparing for Comparison-and-Contrast Research”
October 23: Chapter 14: Catching Up and Oral Presentations
October 30:“Writing a Comparison-and-Contrast Research Paper”
November 6: Chapter 15:“Using Information from Printed Sources”
November 13: Chapter 17:“Pro-Con: Looking at Both Sides”
November 20: Catching Up and Oral Presentations
November 27: Chapter 18:“Defending Your Position”
December 4: Chapter 19:“Analysis and Interpretation”
December 11: Chapter 20:“Analysis and EvaluatIon”
December 18: Catching Up and Oral Presentations
January 8: Chapter 21:“Expanding Research Sources”
Final Essay: An essay of ten pages is required. The content should refer to one's basic scholarly interest. The essay is due on Friday, January 18
評価方法 Evaluation will be based on how well the students participate in the weekly assignments, the quality of the oral presentations, and that of the final essay. Regular attendance and coming to class on time will also be considered.
