副題	This course will discuss some issues of international politics.
講義内容	Issues arising outside Japan affect the daily lives of Japanese. For example, can the international community cope with a threatened pandemic of bird flu? What about global warming? Will the international trading system collapse?
学修目標	The aim of the course is to improve the ability of the students to converse in English about important issues in the world.
講義計画	1. Where does the concept of "state sovereignty" come from in the West? 2. What is an "empire"? 3 How did the Western countries agree to stop fighting over religion? 4. How did the Western maritime powers introduce the concept of "sovereignty" to East Asia? 5. How did China respond to Western encroachments on its sovereignty? 6. How did Japan respond to Western encroachments on its sovereignty? 7. How did Korea respond to encroachments on its sovereignty? 8 How did India respond to encroachments on its sovereignty? 9 Is today's China a state or an empire? 10 What role does China play in the international community? 11.Should Japan be a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council? 12. Can regional organizations ameliorate conflict between Japan and China? 13. How can the Korean peninsula be denuclearized? 14. Will there be war between South Korea and Japan? 15. Report
