Course Description: Students will start off by looking at the basics of writing (structure, layout, objectives vocabulary building etc) and by looking at different examples of writing (letters, emails, and various types of essays), both academic and non academic. Students will be encouraged to develop pre-writing, drafting, revising and editing skills so that they are better equipped to express themselves on a range of topics. We will look at writing for specific purposes as well as looking at essay writing, on subjects such as music/book/movie reviews, opinions and points of view on topics of interest. Students will also be encouraged to tackle free style writing, for confidence and self expression.

This class includes a variety of tasks which help students gain writing fluency in English. As stated in the course goals, students will go through the different stages of the writing process: thinking about what they are going to write (prewriting), planning how they are going to organize it (drafting), checking their work (revising, editing). In Writing I, focus will be put on writing paragraphs of different organizations and letters (letters of complaint, request).
