授業概要  英語で詩や短編小説、その他の創作を行なうコース。はじめに、良い文学作品の鍵は何かを具体例を取りあげて学び、次いで、そこで修得した技術を応用して、各人が創作を行ってゆく。授業と期末レポートでは英語の詩や歌、物語や広告の文句、寸劇などの創作を行なう。
学修目標 Outside class you will have a writing project of your choice: an essay, a short story, or several pages of poetry. Depending upon the members of the class, there will be about two classes on writing in general, two on poetry, five on fiction, and three on essay writing.
授業計画  This creative writing class will provide opportunities to use your English abilities and to draw upon imagination to express what you think and feel about life as it unfolds around you. There will be writing tips, reading or listening to writing examples, responding to a fiction translation, and writing poems, essays, or stories in class.

7.Essay: Audience (27 yr. old American teacher just arriving in Japan)
○ Write essay on your generation of university student: style of clothes, interests, study, plans for the future. (Base this essay on your observations and experiences.)
8.Essay: Interview-based report.
○ Write a list of questions to ask your grandparents or people of their age.
○ Write a report on the good and bad points of their days compared to now.
9.Story: Imaginative creation of a character presented in a painting.
○ “My Last Duchess”

10.Story: Imaginative reworking of events
○ Write a story about something surprising/disappointing that happened to you. Make the story end the way you would have liked it to end.
11.Story: Imaginative reworking of characters
○ Take a folk tale and rewrite to show something more, e.g., go into the thoughts of the characters and take them beyond the ending of the story or show what they were really thinking.
12.Project: First drafts of your own writing project due.
○ (Get yours stamped by the teacher.)
○ Read yours in the small group and listen to the others as they read theirs.
○ Make notes of possible revisions.
13.Story: Imaginative events.
○ Start a story with one or two characters and get them into trouble, pass it on to someone to continue.
○ Get a part of a story from someone else and write the character out of their trouble and put them into a new problem. Pass it on.
14.Writing project final version.
○ Reading each others' writing projects and writing comments.
15. Writing Project with peer comments.
評価方法 The final grade will be based on: a) Reports on 少年ボビー 40%, b) Writing assignments in class 40%, and c) Final writing project 20%. (Strive for proper length, appropriate use of language, effective organization, and moving expression of feelings.)
