授業概要	This course provides students with an opportunity to refine their communicative English skills necessary for their respective academic studies. Activities in this course include: 1) reading a variety of texts related to social issues, 2) summarizing and critically analyzing the texts, 3) discussing ideas with other students, 4) writing short essays, and 5) making presentations.
学修目標	After the completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. interpret a variety of texts 2. develop their own thoughts in reaction to the texts 3. express their thoughts in a persuasive manner both in written and oral forms
授業計画	Week 1: Introduction Week 2: Preparation for presentations and discussions Week 3 - Week 14: Presentations, short essays, and discussions
評価方法	Short essays & class participation 40%; presentations 30%; final paper 30%
