授業概要 The purpose of this course is to give third and fourth year students an opportunity to use their English in enjoyable and useful communicative situations. We will focus on current topics of interest from various sources. Class participation in the form of research, presentation, team work and reflection activities will provide the framework for the class content.
学修目標 At the end of the course the students should notice an increase in their ability to discuss current topics, communicate effectively, increase their working vocabulary, understand the value of peer learning, and have increased fluency in everyday and topical English.
授業計画 The course will be conducted entirely in English, and all students will be expected to continue their conversations and/or discussions between peers and with the teacher COMPLETELY in English. The course consists of 14 weeks of instruction with the final week being used for evaluative purposes. The semester program will be partly negotiated between the instructor and students during the first class, a basic course plan formulated, printed and distributed to each student. The course will consist of student-generated and guided activities in a peer-supportive style atmosphere.
評価方法 Student grades will be consist of self-evaluations of how well each student has achieved goals set at the beginning of the semester. There will be no formal written test at the end of the course but a portfolio and a portfolio summary report submitted by each student.
テキスト To be decided later
その他 Absence from a course due to job hunting, teaching practice and social welfare training toward teaching licenses are NOT considered official by the university and are treated as standard absences. Thus students may be disqualified from the course due to these absences. The appropriateness of this policy and how it is applied to this course will be negotiated during the first class. N.B. The Jouchi-Nanzan Athletic Meet IS considered an “official absence” therefore students absent to participate in this activity need not be concerned about absences due to participation in this meet.
