授業概要 The assessment and evaluation of learners is one of the essential tasks that a teacher has to do, yet few teachers have any real understanding of the theory and practice that has shaped methods of evaluation. This seminar will survey the central issues in the field of evaluation to help students understand the importance of valuation. The topics will, as far as possible, be adapted to match the interests and experience of those taking the classes.
学修目標 This first seminar course aims to introduce students to the area of testing and evaluation. By studying the theory and practice students will understand the factors that are crucial in the design of tests and how tests can be used in research.
授業計画 Part I looks at test theory and the topics of validity and reliability in particular.

Part II looks at the different kinds of tests which are used to assess language proficiency and consider how the format of tests may impact on learner performance.

Part III is concerned with the analysis of tests and will involve the use of a computer to do test analysis.
評価方法 The course evaluation will include continuous assessment of any work produced and a research project report to be submitted at the end of the course.
