【授業概要】

This course teaches the logistics and supply chain from a managerial perspective.  Logistics and supply chain system activities – purchasing and global sourcing, inventory management, warehousing, transportation, facility location and related information flow management - have been performed since the start of commercial activity. Yet it is only from the last decade that firms have started focusing on logistics and supply chain management as a major source of gaining competitive advantage over their rivals.   As a result, logistics and supply chain management today provides a tremendous opportunity for most firms.  This becomes increasingly important as product life cycles are shrinking and competition is intensifying.

This course is taught with the three main objectives: (a) to provide tools for design, analysis, management and performance evaluation of supply chains, (b) to introduce and discuss recent innovations in logistics and supply chain management; and (c) to learn about how logistical decisions impact the performance of the firm as well as the entire supply chain by understanding the linkage between supply chain structures and logistical capabilities in a firm.

【到達目標】

The course is designed to help students develop: 1) An understanding of the complexities associated with the physical movement of goods and how they affect the mission of the firm; 2) a knowledge of the cost trade-off between different functions and activities within an organization as well as with other members of the supply chain; 3) experience employing the various analytical techniques used in solving supply chain-related problems, and 4) An understanding the issues and practices of global supply chain management
