授業概要 This course will help students develop their writing ability in English. Classes will include a variety of writing tasks which will include sentence-combining activities, grammar lessons, writing letters, paragraphs and short essays over a range of topics of life issues to help students write clearly and effectively. Each student will submit a writing portfolio of their work at the end of the semester.

この授業では、明瞭で効果的な文章を書く力を向上させるために、種々のライティング練習を行う。文章をつなぐ練習、文法に関する練習、日常生活に関連するトピックについてメモ、レター、パラグラフ、短いエッセーを書く練習等がこれらに含まれる。学期末に、学期間を通じて行ったライティング作品のポートフォリオを提出する。
学修目標 Students will develop skills in planning, organizing and developing ideas, and expressing themselves clearly with attention to audience awareness. Emphasis will be on the sentence and paragraph level in Writing I and on the paragraph and essay level in WritingII. Students will be exposed to the different stages of the writing process—pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing—to help students become more independent writers.

学生はこの授業をとおして、以下ができるようになることが期待されている。
・読み手を考慮した上で、考えを準備、構成、発展させ、言いたいことを明瞭に表現する力をつける
・ライティングIではセンテンスとパラグラフの単位に焦点が置かれ、ライティングIIではパラグラフとエッセーの単位に焦点が置かれる
・プレライティング、草稿、推敲、編集等、ライティングの過程を学ぶ
・教室を離れても各自でライティングができるようになる

This course will help students develop their writing ability in English. Firstly, students will learn how to plan and organize their writing. From this point, they will learn to compose and edit their work. Students will work alone, but also in pairs and in groups in order to help each other improve their writing skills. Topics will be familiars ones related to studentsユ own lives and there will be opportunities to express their own opinions.

In this course, you will write a series of short essays. As writing is sometimes referred to as ‘thinking on paperユ the primary focus of this course will be on essay purpose and organization, as well as attendance to one audience. In other words, the goal of this course will be on the production of clear, easy to follow, and purposeful writing, writing that has thought behind it.

英文パラグラフを書くことができるようにする。身近なさまざまな話題についての知識・アイデア・意見を論理的にまとめる練習を行う。英文パラグラフの文章の構成方法、個々のセンテンスのつなぎ方を学び、いろいろなタイプのパラグラフのルールに基づき自分の主張を読み手にわかりやすく英文で表現することができるようにする。同時に、英文タイプの基本的なルールを習得する。

複数の英文パラグラフから成る400−500語程度のエッセイを書くことができるようにする。エッセイになった場合の文章の構成方法、各パラグラフのつなぎ方を学ぶ。因果関係、問題解決などのタイプのエッセイの構成方法を用い、矛盾なく論理的に自分の主張を英文で表現することができるようにする。英文タイプの基本を確実に習得する。

Class Description: The class will include a variety of exercises such as writing letters, paragraphs, email, song lyrics, and a variety of short essays on topics of interest. At the end of the course students will be more confident and better organized to write in English. At the end of the course, students will submit a portfolio of their work.
Class Goals: We will focus on a variety of writing skills, including planning, organizing, developing, pre-writing, drafting, revising and editing, to help students become better and more independent writers. Other skills such as being creative and sending email will also be looked at.

This class includes a variety of tasks which help students gain writing fluency in English. As stated in the course goals, students will go through the different stages of the writing process: thinking about what they are going to write (prewriting), planning how they are going to organize it (drafting), checking their work (revising, editing). In Writing I, focus will be put on writing paragraphs of different organizations and letters (letters of complaint, request).

Continuing from Writing I, this class will provide students with a lot of writing tasks to improve their writing ability. More emphasis will be on writing essays and application letters. Students will be encouraged to write multiple-paragraph essays on topics of their experience and career goals, and some students will also be encouraged to form their opinions on social and moral issues. Though this class is open to repeaters, sincere efforts are required.
