副題 Principles of language education
授業概要 The main goal of the course is to examine the essential principles which have a direct effect on the practice of second-language education. The issues will discussed from both a global context and with reference to how second-language education is practiced in Japan.
The course will consider the following areas.
What should be taught?      — curriculum issues
How should classes be taught?      — methodology issues
How should learning be measured? — assessment issues
学修目標 The main objective of this course to introduce students to the issues involved in foreign language teaching policy and practice. By the end of the course students will understand the interdependency between curriculum planning, materials, methods and assessment. They will also learn how pedagogic, political and financial concerns play a part in the processes of policy creation and change.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) Students will be given materials to read before each class. In addition, they may also be given research tasks to do which are related to the theme of the next class.
評価方法 Grades for the course will be determined by one major written report at the end of the course and tasks given during the course. There will be no examination. Attendance to classes will also be counted towards the final assessment.
