授業概要 The course takes a generalist approach for intermediate level students, focusing on the development of all four language skills. Its focus is on third and fourth year students who want to continue to develop their communication skills but have few other courses where English is the required language.

This class is an intermediate class and not suitable for returnee students or those already possessing a high level of English proficiency. Those students should consider taking an Advanced Skills course.
学修目標 The goal of the course is to give intermediate level students the opportunity to improve their fluency and ability to communicate in spoken English with special emphasis on developing listening ability in a relaxed non-threatening environment. There are also reading and writing requirements to help students solidify the classroom experiences into their active vocabulary and speaking/listening ability.

The class focuses on self-motivated students who are interested in improving their English ability. Exercises and topics are student-centered, with each student being responsible for choosing topics, guiding discussions and summarizing conclusions.
授業計画 Total schedule includes 14 classes, and the content of each class will be negotiated at the first class to best meet the needs of the students and to keep their interests and levels at the center of the course.. The weekly schedule will then evolve, with each student being given a copy via email, Moodle or printed copy.
授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) Preparation time varies for each student depending upon their role in the class, but in general, students should plan on spending at least two hours a week in preparation as a participant; three or more hours required (over
a period of time) when acting as a group or discussion leader. Group projects will require that students meet with each other outside of class according to their individual schedules.
評価方法 Evaluation methods will be discussed during the first class, the basis being students' actual effort put into the course judged through self- and classmate-based grading.

Primary basis for evaluation will be the effort made by each student to use English in the class. There will be no final examination but a final project will be required. Final graded interviews may be required at instructor's discretion.
テキスト Printed materials will be distributed as necessary. No text required.
その他 This is course for intermediate-level students. All communication in the course−student-teacher; student-student will be in English.
