Why study about Africa? The media always paints a grim picture of Africa, focusing mainly on the conflicts, HIV/AIDS, Poverty or animals and therefore the good parts, its rich cultures, people, natural resources, etc are overlooked. There is more to Africa than just what the media shows. The goal of this course is for students to gain an understanding of Africa and its great diversity and rich heritage. The aim is for students to see Africa differently. The Africa they donft know or donft usually see on TV.
