授業概要 | This course will help students improve their overall ability to use spoken English for communication. Classes will include a variety of exercises and activities to help activate knowledge through actual use, to stimulate healthy attitudes towards English and studying, to learn about learning, and to master language necessary for interpersonal interaction in a relaxed yet challenging environment. Activities may include pair-work, small group discussion, interviews, role-plays, individual presentations, group projects, and audiotape and video activities. |
学修目標 | ●Use conversation strategies to start, maintain and conclude conversations in English. ●Talk about daily routines, personal topics such as family, work and college life. ●Identify and use vocabulary for specific topics/themes as well as vocabulary for everyday functions. ●Prepare, discuss and/or debate controversial issues, providing support for their statements and demonstrating knowledge about the issues in English. ●Orally summarize readings, generate discussion questions and moderate conversations. ●Give a 7-minute presentation in English on an academic topic. ●Maintain a conversation in pairs or in groups for at least 10 minutes in English on an academic topic. ●Negotiate ideas in English (agree/disagree/refer to other speakers, opinions). ●Do both top-down and bottom-up listening. ●Identify and summarize the main idea and supporting details from 2-5 minute listening tasks. ●Understand linked sounds and intonation. ●Take notes on academic content. ●Perform a play. |

授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) | In addition to the homework assigned in the Weekly Schedule section listed above, students are expected to read any relevant material, prepare for debates and their presentation, study for exams, practice for the play and visit the World Plaza regularly. |

その他 | Homework & Participation -1% from the final grade if a student is late, sleeping, using his/her phone, using Japanese, does not have homework or generally not participating.
