授業概要 This is a speaking / listening class. Class activities will include spontaneous face-to-face conversations, presentations, online broadcasts, and academic lectures. The course is constructed around the central idea of preparing the students to respond quickly to the sort of language they are likely to encounter in their further social, academic, and career interactions in English. Students will work in pairs, small groups and individually to prepare conversation topics and short presentations.

授業計画 Week:1 Introduction to course
Week:2 Explaining routine events: Grammar review of simple present, asking and responding to questions about routine. HW: Online listening activity (model presentation / daily routine listening exercise)
Week:3 Studying the model presentation of routine, preparing individual presentations, class discussion.
Week:4 Small group presentations, routine, error correction and self / peer evaluation
Week:5 Describing past events: Grammar review of past tense expressions, grammar review of past tense question forms. HW: Online listening activity (model presentation / past listening exercise)
Week:6 Studying the model presentation of past events, preparing individual presentations, class discussion
Week:7 Small group presentations, past events, error correction and self / peer evaluation
Week:8 Review / Quiz
Week:9 Describing location: Grammar review of future expressions, grammar review of location question forms. HW: Online listening activity (model presentation / location listening exercise)
Week: 10 Studying the model presentation of location, preparing individual presentations, class discussion.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) Students will be expected to complete several online listening assignments as homework and write short essays as preparation for their in class presentations.
評価方法 Quiz and homework: 40%
Speaking test: 30%
Final Exam (written test): 30%
テキスト All materials provided by the teacher. Students must bring a bilingual dictionary to every class.
その他 Attendance: Students are expected to attend class regularly. Students who miss 4 classes will receive an F. Students who fail to turn in the final report by the deadline will receive an X.
