副題
授業概要 This course will help students improve their overall ability to use spoken English for communication. Classes will include a variety of exercises and activities to help activate knowledge through actual use, to stimulate healthy attitudes towards English and studying, to learn about learning, and to master language necessary for interpersonal interaction in a relaxed yet challenging environment. Activities include pair-work, small group discussion, interviews, role-plays, debates, individual presentations, group projects and video activities.
学修目標 1. Use conversation strategies to start, maintain, and conclude conversations.
2. Talk about daily routines and personal topics.
3. Identify and use vocabulary for specific topics as well as for everyday functions.
4. Discuss and debate controversial issues.
5. Orally summarize readings, generate discussion questions and moderate conversations.
6. Give a 5-10 minute presentation in English on an academic topic.
7. Maintain a conversation in pairs or small groups for at least 10 minutes on an academic topic.

授業時間外の学習（準備学習など） Students are expected to read and summarize passages and additional readings provided by the instructor, prepare for discussions and debates, research topics, create visual aids and note cards for presentations and group discussions, and visit the World Plaza regularly. All homework is to be submitted at the beginning of each class period.
評価方法 1. Homework and World Plaza = 20%
2. Language Lab = 25%
3. Presentations etc =30%
4. “Final” = 25%
*Students must pass the LL class and OC class, to pass the course.
*Presentations will also include conversations, debates and other activities.
*”Final” will include a presentation, a short conversation, and a small report.

その他 Attendance: Students are expected to attend class regularly. Attendance is integral to the smooth running of group presentations. Students who miss 8 classes will receive an F. Note that club activities are considered an absence. Students who fail to turn in the final report by the deadline will receive an X.
