授業概要 This course is a continuation of Oral Communication III. Students will listen to different types of discourse which will be accompanied by comprehension exercises designed to develop listening skills such as predicting, identifying main ideas and details, and note taking. Speaking will be taught implicitly through the listening activities, which will serve as models of functional language or conventional style. Students will also do structured speaking activities, including some pronunciation exercises and especially conversation in pairs and small groups Students will also be required to make short oral presentations based on suggested topics.

・Vocabulary exercises prepare students to discuss specific topics.
・Listening strategies give students tools for personal and academic success.
・Note-taking and outlining practice prepare students for university and college level listening.
・Speaking activities such as role-plays, presentations, and debates reinforce the use of authentic English.
授業計画 Week: 1 Introduction to course
Week: 2 Explaining regulations: Grammar review of rule expression forms, asking and responding to questions about rules and regulations. HW: Online listening activity (model presentation / new duties for employees)
Week: 3 Studying the model presentation about rules, preparing individual presentations, class discussion.
Week: 4 Small group presentations, rules and regulations, error correction and self / peer evaluation
Week: 5 Comparative & Superlatives: Grammar review of comparative & superlative expressions, grammar review of comparative question forms. HW: Online listening activity (model presentation / Comparing automobiles listening exercise)
Week: 6 Studying the model comparison presentation, preparing individual presentations, class discussion
Week: 7 Small group presentations, comparison, error correction and self / peer evaluation
Week: 8 Review / Quiz
Week: 9 Making predictions: Critical thinking & deductive reasoning, grammar review of modal question forms. HW: Online listening activity (model presentation / Japan in 2030)
Week: 10 Studying the model presentation of prediction, preparing individual presentations, class discussion.
Week: 11 Small group presentations, making predictions, error correction and self / peer evaluation
Week: 12 Class presentations

Week: 14 Small group presentation / interview (speaking test / final exam)
Week: 15 Review for written test
授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) Students will be expected to complete several online listening assignments as homework and write short essays as preparation for their in class presentations.
評価方法 Quiz and homework: 40%
Speaking test: 30%
Written test: 30%
テキスト All materials provided by the teacher. Students must bring a bilingual dictionary to every class.
その他 Attendance: Students are expected to attend class regularly. Students who miss 4 classes will receive an F. Students who fail to turn in the final report by the deadline will receive an X.
