授業概要 The aims of English Reading I are to provide students with a variety of reading strategies to improve reading proficiency and promote a positive attitude for and competence in reading in English. Activities will include both extensive and intensive reading tasks using a variety of texts for improving student skills in surveying, predicting, skimming, scanning, inferring, and making connections with the readings.
学修目標 1.Preview an English text and make predictions about it
2.Read and understand designated texts at a rate of 100 words per minute or faster (the highest group should be reading at 200 words or higher); in the 2nd semester read at a rate of 120 words per minute or faster
3.Read, understand graded readers (at approximately OUP Stage/Level 4 in the 1st semester) without using a dictionary and are able to summarize stories, identify important passages, connect the readings with other literature/stories, and connect the stories in some way to their own lives or events and issues in the world in general
4.Guess the meaning of words from context and make inferences
5.Read a section of text aloud with appropriate rhythm, word stress, and intonation
6.Identify a writerユs opinion or attitude
7.Evaluate information and opinions in readings for validity and logic
8.Read, understand, and discuss, メauthenticモ articles on current issues (メauthenticモ, for the purpose of this document refers to materials that have been written without being simplified for EFL/ESL readers, such as those found in daily newspapers
