授業概要 This course will help students become better readers of English. The course will provide students with a variety of reading strategies to improve reading proficiency so that they may read quickly and effectively, and will promote a positive attitude so that students come to enjoy reading in English. The course will feature both short academic texts and the reading of longer fiction, and will emphasize responses to the readings.
学修目標 1.Read a lot.
2.Learn to identify the main ideas in a reading and critically evaluate those ideas with reference to the arguments put forward in the text itself and knowledge outside the text.
3.Respond to readings, considering the consequences of the content for oneself and one’s surroundings, and connections with economics.
4.Read, understand and discuss graded readers at a level appropriate to each student.
5.Improve reading speed.
6.Improve vocabulary and learn how to learn vocabulary.
7.View reading as a positive, pleasurable activity vital to life.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) Students will be expected to read extensively using graded readers and will write short reviews of the books read. They will also find and prepare reading materials to be shared with classmates.
評価方法 Class participation = 20 percent  Graded readers = 15 percent
Class assignments = 25 percent  Homework = 10 percent
Final exam = 30 percent

その他 Attendance is important. Students who miss 4 classes will receive an F.
