授業概要	This class aims to improve reading proficiency and to ultimately give students the confidence and ability to read texts designed for native speakers. Students will increase their reading speeds, broaden and deepen their vocabulary, learn to make use of linguistic relationships to guess words from context and employ strategies to identify the writer’s purpose. In addition to these, they will also learn how to predict outcomes, see relationships, draw conclusions and complete both intensive and extensive reading activities.
学修目標	● Guess the meaning of the words from context and make inferences ● Preview a text and make predictions about it ● Skim and scan a text for key information ● Recognize reference words in a text ● Summarize a text ● Read, understand, summarize and discuss graded readers (OUP level ３ or higher) ● Read and understand designated texts at a rate of 120 words per minute or faster ● Read, understand and discuss authentic newspaper articles on current issues

授業時間外の学習（準備学習など）	Students are expected to, preview each unit from the textbook and do assigned homework tasks for each unit, read graded readers and write book summaries. In addition, students will write reports and prepare presentations.

その他	Attendance: Students are expected to attend class regularly. Students who miss ４ classes will receive an F. Students who fail to turn in the final report by the deadline will receive an X.
