授業概要	This course provides students with a variety of reading strategies to improve reading proficiency and promote a positive attitude for and competence in reading in English. Activities will include both extensive and intensive reading tasks using a variety of texts for improving student skills in surveying, predicting, skimming, scanning, inferring, and making connections with the readings.
学修目標	Improve reading speed １. Use strategies to guess meaning from context ２. Make predictions about a text ３. Skim and scan for key information ４. Identify main ideas and supporting details from a text ５. Analyze text to determine relationships between ideas and draw conclusions ６. Read, understand, and discuss graded readers (at approximately OUP Level ２ or higher)

授業時間外の学習（準備学習など）	Students will be expected to read short texts and graded readers outside of class, prepare reader summaries, and study the vocabulary that compliments the readers and unit topics.
評価方法	Participation/Preparation: 30%, Graded reader quizzes and summaries: 45% Final Report: 25%
テキスト	North Star Reading and Writing, Level １, Second Edition, Pearson Longman
その他	Attendance and Participation are graded heavily in this course. Students who miss ４ classes will fail without exception. Club activities are considered an absence. The final report must be submitted before the final deadline. Failure to do so will result in a grade of X for the student.
