授業概要 | This course provides students with a variety of reading strategies to improve reading proficiency and promote a positive attitude for and competence in reading in English. Activities will include both extensive and intensive reading tasks using a variety of texts for improving student skills in surveying, predicting, skimming, scanning, inferring, and making connections with the readings. |
学修目標 | ● Scan a text for specific information. ● Identify the main idea of a paragraph or text. ● Preview an English text and make predictions about it. ● Read and understand designated texts at about 80-100 words per minute. ● Read, understand, and discuss graded readers (at approximately Oxford University Press Bookworms ● Stage/Level 3) without using a dictionary and are able to summarize stories, identify important passages, connect the readings with other literature and their own lives. ● Guess the meanings of words from context. |

評価方法 | ● 12 Unit Quizzes - 75% - 12.5% for each quiz; late or absent students receive 0%. ● Book Report - 25% - Late or no report = X |

その他 | Homework & Participation - 15% - 1% for each class, but 0% if student is late, sleeping, using his/her phone, using Japanese, does not do homework or generally not participating. Early leave, late 3 times, or late for more than 15 minutes = 1absence. 欠席と成績評価: 欠席は4回に達した段階でF(不合格)評価がつく。また、授業数の3分の1を超えて欠席がある場合、評価はS(欠席過多)となる。 If you miss 4 classes, you will get an F. |
