授業概要	Class description : The purpose of this class is to improve your English language skills, particularly writing. In this class you will do a wide variety of writing at different levels of formality. You will also write a large quantity of English. Attendance is required and absences will affect your grade. Being more than 20 minutes late equals an absence. Being late three times equals one absence. IF YOU ARE ABSENT FOUR TIMES OR MORE, YOU WILL FAIL THIS CLASS! Homework is due at the beginning of the next class after it has been assigned. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out the assignment and complete the homework. Participation is required in this course. Active participation leads to better learning, higher fluency, and is more enjoyable for teachers and students.
学修目標	１．Students will be able to write coherent paragraphs on a variety of topics. ２．Students will improve their writing speed and fluency, and learn some organizational structures. ３．Significant improvement in all areas of English writing is expected.
授業計画	Note : (each week there will also be a 10-minute timed writing exercise) week１　　introductions and introduction to timed writings and process writing week２　　writing questions and interviewing a partner week３　　talking about schedules week４　　writing about schedules with an emphasis on variety of vocabulary and 　　　　　 sentence structure week５　　reading about childhood memories week６　　writing a personal narrative about a childhood memory week７　　peer editing of childhood memories essay week８　　compare and contrast introduction week９　　compare and contrast essay week10　　revisions and re-writes week11　　English language learning histories week12　　writing English language learning histories week13　　peer editing of English language learning histories week14　　ELLH and portfolio organization week15　　review of portfolios and review of 2011 events and activities
授業時間外の学習（準備学習など）	This course requires a lot of preparation time for class. Students must write at least five homework assignments this semester. Some of these assignments must be re-written as well. This is not an appropriate class for lazy or unmotivated students.
評価方法	Grades will be based on : timed writing 10% homework assignments 40% final portfolio 50%
テキスト	No textbook ; the instructor will provide class materials
その他	Please be on time and attend class regularly, participate in class activities and do all of your homework. If you do these things, you can improve your English writing, and fully enjoy this course.
