授業概要 The purpose of this class is to teach you how to write clearly and effectively for a variety of writing tasks such as letters, short paragraphs, and multiple-paragraph essays over a range of genres. To accomplish this, you will develop skills in planning, organizing, and developing ideas, recognizing your audience, formatting a paper, typing, combining sentences, using key vocabulary and identifying target features in sample papers. You will also learn to summarize, paraphrase and quote information from outside sources as well as learn to write a bibliography.

3.Write a unified and developed paragraph (200+ words) on a general or personal topic
4.Write a multiple-paragraph essay (450+ words) on a general or personal topic
5.Use the conventions for specific writing genres such as description, comparison, cause and effect, evaluation, classification and persuasion
6.Understand vocabulary associated with writing and the writing process
7.Write basic sentence patters with coordination and subordination with accuracy
8.Write in an academic tone
9.Recognize and use transitional devices
10.Follow basic typing conventions

授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) Students will be expected to prepare pre-writings, rough drafts, and final drafts for five papers. Students will also be given sentence combining homework. Student will need to write reflections for each of their papers and at the end of the semester submit a portfolio of samples of their best work along with a final reflection of their writing process for the term.

その他 Attendance : Students are expected to attend class regularly. Students who miss 4 classes will receive an F. Students who fail to turn in the final report by the deadline will receive an X.
