授業概要 The advancement in prose style was no less startling than the technological progress that had been unleashed by the world's first industrial revolution. It was during the Romantic period that England saw the rise of its most memorable novels and most innovative essays. Students will study Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. The aim of this course is to help the advanced learner of English arrive at a deeper understanding of English Romantic history and culture.
学修目標 By the end of this course, you would gain the knowledge and confidence to talk and write about novels from the Romantic period.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) You will be assigned about 2 hours of homework every week. Apart from reading the course textbook, you will be given other reading materials and be expected to prepare class presentations, written analyses,etc.
評価方法 Spring semester: 1000-word essayが50%、homeworkが30%、oral presentationsが20%
テキスト Mary Shelley, Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus: the 1818 text (Oxford World's Classics), ISBN 978-0192833662, or Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility (Penguin Classics), ISBN 978-0-14-143966-2.
