副題 Subtitle: The Elements of the Sounds of English
授業概要 　英語音声学の基礎知識を与えるとともに、特に日本人が英語を発音する際の困難点を指摘し、日・英語の音韻構造の違い、英語の発音指導のためのヒントを示す。発声器官の名称と働き、英語音の分類と記述、音連続の発音、発話に見られる音声的変化、アクセント、イントネーション等を詳述する。
学修目標 　The lecture will aim for an understanding of the IPA alphabet, and it’s theoretical background. Building on this knowledge, further understanding of the pronunciation system of English will the final goal of this semester.
授業計画 　During the Spring Semester, we will consider the elements with constitute the sounds of language, especially the sounds of one particular language, that is, English. The concepts of segmental phonology, such as the phoneme, allophone, syllable, and distinctive features will be discussed.
　Although this is mainly a lecture course, the students are expected to master and use the IPA system, in class and out.

評価方法 筆記試験（90分）80％、課題10％、授業参加（質疑応答など）10％。
