講義題目

授業概要	外国語教育は、異なる言語を話す人と接触した時にその言語を学び始める。その関係は、相手がより優勢である場合には、好むと好まざるに関わらず、生きて行くために、その言語を習得する必要がある。そうでない場合は、より対等の関係になり、異文化理解に繋がる。本講義では、過去の種々の外国語教授法を考察する。古くは、文法・訳読法、そして、最近のものに至るものまで、その特徴を検討する。それにより、集団として外国語修得が行われる場合に、どの方法、あるいは混成方法がどんな言語習得集団に有効であるかを検討する。
学修目標	The objectives of this course are to enable students to understand the principles of research design used in second language acquisition and foreign language education. By the end of the course the students will understand the process of constructing a piece of research and the parameters involved in designing a research project. The students will also be able to construct a research project of their own and to write a research proposal outlining their project.
授業計画	Course Plan: During the course we will examine the following: ── What is research and how if differs from other forms of enquiry ── How to formulate a clear research question ── How to turn a research question into a research design ── The research design cycle ── Qualitative vs. quantitative research ── Different methods of conducting SLA research ── The development of appropriate research instruments for use in SLA research
評価方法	Method of evaluation: The course evaluation will include continuous assessment of any work produced and a research project report to be submitted at the end of the course.
