授業概要	This course provides students with a variety of reading strategies to improve reading proficiency and promote a positive attitude for and competence in reading in English. Activities will include both extensive and intensive reading tasks using a variety of texts for improving student skills in surveying, predicting, skimming, scanning, inferring, and making connections with the readings.
学修目標	１．Students will increase their reading speeds ２．They will broaden and deepen their vocabulary ３．They will learn to make use of linguistic relationships to guess words from context ４．Students will employ strategies to identify the writerユs purpose ５．They will learn to see relationships and draw conclusions ６．Lessons will empower them to be more independent learners
授業計画	１．Introductions and course Explanations ２．Marriage − Finding main ideas in paragraphs ３．Weddings − Scanning ４．Introduction to extensive reading ５．Sleep − Getting meaning from context ６．Skimming reading technique ７．Discussion of Graded Reader ８．The Supernatural − Main ideas in paragraphs ９．Luck - Predicting the topic 10．Extensive reading − Phantom of the Opera 11．Games online − Recognizing opinions 12．The Internet − Ignoring unknown words 13．Extensive reading & Graded Readers 14．Further Discussion of Readers 15．Review and Final report (Due date to be announced in class)
授業時間外の学習（準備学習など）	Students are expected to make use of the extensive selection of graded readers in the library.
評価方法	Class participation 20％ Homework 30％ Final report 50％

その他	Attendance: Students are expected to attend class regularly. Students who miss ４ classes will receive an F. Students who fail to turn in the final report by the deadline will receive an X.
