授業概要 | Why is management and leadership important in an age of globalization? In a complex and uncertain competitive business environment, this seminar course will offer analytical frameworks and strategies for effective and efficient management decision-making, and help students write a scholarly research paper on their subject of interest in global management and ethical leadership. The seminar will be taught in simple English, and when necessary also in Japanese. Audio-visual materials in both languages will also be used. |
学修目標 | 経営演習I: (1) To familiarize students with basic research methodologies and proper documentation, from collecting data to developing an outline and writing an initial draft of proposed graduation paper. (2) To heighten oneユs knowledge and understanding of significant managerial concepts and strategies and ethical frameworks in international business. (3) To develop greater awareness and broader perspectives of diverse and complex ethical issues in the business world. 経営演習II: (1) To further develop the students' managerial and leadership skills in order to effectively analyze and respond to contemporary ethical issues. (2) To be able to synthesize and see the interconnectedness of all the diverse course subjects at the faculty of Business Administration, and at Nanzan. (3) To continuously revise, improve, and finish graduation thesis. |
授業計画 | 経営演習I: SPRING SEMESTER Session 1 Guidance: Orientation and Overview Session 2-5 Basic library research methodology and documentation. Session 6-11 Lecture and discussion: fundamental concepts of, and ethical frameworks for international business and management, such as marketing, management, finance, computer, and environment, among others. Session 12-14 Presentation and discussion: initial proposed topics for graduation paper and selected references. Session 15 Synopsis FALL SEMESTER Session 1 Guidance and Overview Session 2-5 Advanced research methodology and documentation Session 6-11 Course content will be adjusted according to the studentsユ selected topics of interest in order to assist them develop a broader perspective on the subject. Session 12-14 The students are expected to present and discuss with their classmates a general overview, and write an initial draft, or at least 50% of their proposed graduation paper. Session 15 Synopsis 経営演習II: SPRING SEMESTER Session 1 Guidance: Orientation and Overview Session 2-11 Taking into consideration the students' job-hunting activities and their subject of interest, the concrete program for the Spring semester will be based on individual needs and pace. The second year will be spent mainly to deepen their knowledge and further develop their analytical skills with current events and case studies. Furthermore, the seminar students will also develop synthetic skills to see and understand the interconnectedness of all the different courses at the faculty of Business Administration, as well as the other related courses from various disciplines at Nanzan. Students will continue to do research, read, reflect, write and improve the quality of their graduation paper. Session 12-14 Individual presentation of progress report Session 15 Synopsis FALL SEMESTER Session 1: Guidance: Orientation and Overview Session 2-14 The Fall semester will be spent to finalize graduation paper. There will a regular progress report and constant revision of working paper towards the completion of graduation thesis. Session 15 Graduation Paper Evaluation and Final Synopsis |
授業時間外の学習(準備学習など) | 1.Readings will be assigned in class for active class participation. 2.Short assignments and other course requirements done outside of the classroom will be decided after consultation with the students. |
評価方法 | 経営演習I Students will be graded based on their attendance and active in-class participation (35%), short assignments (25%), final presentation (20%) and final report (20%). 経営演習II Grades will be based on active in-class participation (25%), short progress reports (25%), and final graduation paper (50%) |
