The trip to the Manila was very fruitful. I visited the Philippine Regulatory
Commission (PRC). This is the body that administers board licensing examinations
to nurses. With the visit, I was able to talk to the people in-charge of
the statistics and eventually bought their poblications. |
The publication I bought would be very helpful in analyzing the nursing
schools in the Philippines. Gathering statistics is something new to this
government agency. They lumped up several years together. This makes it
very difficult to analyze and trends. Even with this limited statistics,
the government is still reluctant to make the results public because of
political pressure from officials who are directly or indirectly connected
to nursing schools. |
The Philippines had been exporting nurses worldwide. This trend affects
the running of nursing schools in such a way that many inferior schools
are built giving false hopes to students. The proliferation of nursing
schools lowers the quality of nursing education and hence also lowers the
passing rates. This is a big disservice to students who have to pay much
money to get into these schools. |
With the data I have, I can analyze the success rates of different nursing
schools by regions and by kinds of schools. Eventually, this analysis can
be made public so that parents and students will have a better guide to
selecting nursing schools. |
