There was a collapse of Marian devotion since the Second Vatican Council. The non-insertion of a separate document on Mary was considered as a huge blow to all Marian devotions. However the Council Fathers never intended to discourage or shunt all devotions to Mary. Rather they wanted to set the right path for a true and healthy devotion to Mary. Successive Popes since Second Vatican Council too guided the faithful to have a strong but healthy devotion to Mary. They cautioned the Catholics from all exaggerations in Marian devotion. They rightly invited all to look upon Mary as their mother and model disciple of her son, Jesus Christ.
