International Collaboration PBL

In NU-COIL, around the time the student goes abroad to study, or during the actual period of study abroad, internships are carried out in leading corporations, organizations and government bodies with which Nanzan has built up relationships. In addition, in response to topics put forward by the corporations etc. students from both countries suggest effective solutions to the problems after their research and discussions transcending differences in culture, language and academic approach. NU-COIL's unique links between industry, government and academia allow students to deal with more practical cases put forward by corporations involved in PBL COIL. Making the most of the internship experience including information and insights gained in the field, NU-COIL fosters an ability to excel in a globalized society.

PBL COIL Case Study

  1. Topic proposed:

Topic: A Japanese confectionary company likes to sell a brand called "Kokoro" (meaning spirit or heart) to tourists from the U.S. Could you think of an effective sales promotion?

  2. Gathering information:

Research the official website or publications for mission statements or public relations' key points. Visit the company to do an interview as required and ask questions.

  3. COIL

Based upon information gathered, working with the students from the U.S., think about a promotion. This should involve discussion of things such as the profile of Japanese confectionary items in the U.S., trends in consumer tastes, and effective methods of promotion in the U.S. market.

  4. Presentation・Feedback

As the final piece of work, present a short promotion movie about "Kokoro" on the company website. In front of the person in charge within the company, present the reasoning behind it and some footage that gives an idea of the content of the short movie. In response, the company gives some feedback.
