1.Service Hours

We accept inquiries regarding matters such as literature searches, how to use OPAC and Web databases. Please approach the Service counter (Reference).
When you come to make your inquiry, please bring your student ID if you are a student or some form of personal identification if you are a faculty staff. This service is not available on Saturdays or Sundays and during the New Year holidays.
2.Services provided
The following services are available to Nanzan University students and full-time faculty staff.
Some services are also available to part-time non-tenured faculty or researchers so please inquire at the Service counter (Reference) about these.
Reference services or Interlibrary loan services are not available to members of the general public.

3.Services
If the book or periodical that you are looking for is not in the University, it is possible for you to go direct to the university or institution library that has the material (visit and use) or request a copy or the actual item to be sent to Nanzan University Library. Copies of materials or Interlibrary loan requests can also be made by means of the ILL Copy Request or ILL Loan Request in OPAC, the Library online catalogue, and it is possible to check the status of an item requested by clicking on "check item status."
Catalog searches (no charge)
Tracing materials that may be held by other universities or institute.
Issuing letters of introduction (no charge)
- A letter of introduction is required when wishing to use materials at other universities or institute that are not held in the Nanzan University Library.
- Please apply for the letter no later than one week before the date that you plan to visit the other university or institute.
- When you come to pick the letter up please bring either your student ID card (for students) or a form of identification (for teaching staff).
Database searches (fee charged)
A library staff member will carry out a (fee-charging) database search for you.
National Diet Library digitalized materials service (Viewing is free of charge but charge for copying)
With the "Act Partially Amending the Copyright Law" (promulgated 27 June 2012 and came into effect 1 January 2013) coming into force, of the digitalized materials in the National Diet Library, it has become possible to send out copies to libraries etc. of those materials that are normally difficult to acquire. Nanzan Reiners Central Library offers viewing and copying services of digitalized materials that have been sent out.
Viewing can only be done at the Service counter (Reference).
Digital data cannot be stored.
Photocopying costs
Black & White: 10 yen Color: 20 yen
Requests for copying of materials (fee is charged)
- Requesting that copies of journal articles or academic papers be sent from other universities or institutions.
- Postal costs and a copying fee of approximately 35-55 yen is charged for two pages copied together (within Japan).
- After your request is lodged, it takes about one week for the item to arrive (within Japan).
- When you come to pick the item up, please bring your student ID if you are a student or some form of personal identification if you are an instructor.
Interlibrary loan requests (fee charged)
- It is possible to request loans of materials from other universities or institutions.
- You are required to cover the cost incurred to post the item both ways.
- Within Japan it will take about one week from the date of your application.
- As a general rule, materials that have been sent from another university or institution cannot be taken out of the Library. If you wish to do so, you must make this clear when you apply for the item.
- If you wish to use Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research please ensure that you make this clear when you lodge your request.
- When you come to pick up the item requested, please bring your student ID if you are a student or some form of personal identification if you are a member of the teaching staff.
4.Others
Checking the status of an ILL (inter-library loan) request
You are able to check the status of any ILL requests you have made by going to the check availability function on MyLibrary.
Under application | The application has been received. It is only possible to cancel the request at this stage. |

Under examination | The application is being processed with the request being made to other universities or institutes. |
Receivable / Borrowable | The item requested has arrived. Please come to the Service counter (Reference) to receive it. |
Loaned out | The materials for loan are currently on loan. |
Rejected | The request has been cancelled for a reason such as the materials are available within Nanzan University. |
