User Guide Facilities & Equipment: Catholic Book Room
Nanzan Reiners Central Library aims to contribute to the activities of researchers studying the history of Christianity in modern Japan by constructing a repository of Christian books and materials suitable for a Catholic University library.
Materials held
- Christianity-related publications etc. from the Meiji (1868-1912), Taisho (1912-1926) and early Showa period (1926 until around 1970). (Bibles, prayer books, hymn books, catechisms and their interpretations, journals, newspapers and missionary materials).
- Foreign historical materials regarding missionary work in the Orient (Japan).
- Church and monastic order publications (church historical journals, monastic order historical journals, missionary magazines・parish newsletters, church newsletters etc).
Materials available
As a general rule, this applies to all materials, but please understand that in some cases use may not be possible because of the condition of the materials.

- ※1 Prior application is required when using Catholic Book Room. Please lodge that application no later than two days prior to the date on which you wish to view books in the collection . If you wish to copy and photograph with a digital camera, please let us know.

- ※3 If you do not possess a user card for the academic year in question before viewing materials you will need to fill in a Nanzan University User Reiners Central Registration Application Form. Please bring a form of personal identification with you such as your driving license. You do not need a letter of introduction. Please check on the Library's website.
- ※4 In the case that Nanzan University wish to borrow materials they must first submit a "special loan request." After the approval of the directer of the Nanzan University Library, we will inform you about whether to lend.
- ※5 In principle, documents published before 1945 can not be copied on a copy machine, so it will be taken with a digital camera. Please understand that in some cases copying or photographing may not be possible because of the condition of the materials.
- ・If you would like to make a copy, please fill out the "copy application form." on the usage day. (A digital camera is brought by the user, it is impossible to flash.)
- ・If you wish to take a picture, please fill out "Library materials photography application form" on the use day.
- ※6 Please note that you must apply for permission to post (online) or publish photographs you have taken of materials.
